Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers Maine brings families and communities in need together with volunteers and resources to build decent, affordable houses.
Youth United

Youth United is a new initiative in the 7 Rivers Maine areas that invites youths aged 5-25 to get involved by sponsoring and building houses in the community.

For more information about Youth United, send an e-mail to our Youth Coordinator, Kaelyn Modrak or call her at 386-5081.

Here's some information about current events:

Youth United Builds Picnic Tables

Perfect for summer in the backyard, order a picnic table to be built by the Youth United volunteers.  These are solid wood with pressure-treated legs to make them great for outdoor use.  Separate benches make handling and storage a breeze.  Price is $95 + tax (natural) or $110 + tax (stained) and takes approximately two weeks to build so order soon.  Send an e-mail to Kaelyn or call her at 386-5081.

Bowdoin College Sleep Out

As a part of Act! Speak! Build! Week Bowdoin students slept outside on campus to advocate for affordable housing on the night of April 2nd, 2009.  Click here to see pictures from the event.

Youth United Letter Writing Campaign

Our youth program has registered for Act! Speak! Build! Week, a student-initiated and nationwide week of advocacy.  Act! Speak! Build! Week empowers young people to educate themselves and their communities and move people to social action. HFH / 7RM’s youth will be engaged in a letter writing campaign surrounding affordable housing and Habitat’s mission.  At various schools in the area, including Brunswick High School, Morse High School, Bowdoin College, Brunswick Middle School, and Mt. Ararat, youth will write to their town legislators about the importance of affordable housing in our community and to remember Habitat’s cause while drafting town laws.
We will be focusing on land ordinances in each town which discourage “cluster housing,” or multiple houses built on less than an acre. We hope that through this campaign our communities will become more open to affordable housing and Habitat homes!
For more information, or to become involved with the Youth United letter writing campaign, please send an e-mail to Kaelyn Modrak, Youth Coordinator.
